Optical color mixture is a phenomenon that occurs when a viewer perceives colors placed in close proximity as a different, combined color. For example, if blue and yellow were placed next to one another, it would create the illusion of green – the color that would be created if the colors were actually combined. This technique is used in the painting technique of pointillism.
