Contemporary Art is art produced at the present period in time. Contemporary Art includes, and develops from, Postmodern Art, which is itself a successor to Modern Art. In vernacular English, “contemporary” simply means “current”, but there are distinct conceptual differences between “contemporary art” and “modern art”.

Contemporary art does not necessarily have the same aims or goals as Modern Art. In fact, there is no single consensus about what Contemporary Art is. It is generally thought to be a break from, or reaction to, Modern Art. Contemporary Art often incorporates elements of Traditional Art, Popular Culture, and Technology. It can be seen as a bridge between the past and the future or as a way of understanding the present.

There is no one answer to the question, “What is Contemporary Art?” It is an ever-evolving field, and its definition will continue to change over time. For now, it is best to think of Contemporary Art as a broad umbrella term that encompasses a wide range of art forms and styles.
