Cut Piece by Yoko Ono was created in 1966 as an instruction piece. It was first performed at the Indica Gallery in London on November 27, 1966. The idea behind Cut Piece is that the audience can come up and cut away at the clothing that the artist is wearing, until she is left completely naked.

The work is often seen as a powerful comment on gender inequality and the objectification of women’s bodies. It also highlights the vulnerability of the artist, who is at the mercy of the audience’s actions. Cut Piece has been performed a number of times since its debut, including by other artists such as Marina Abramović and Chris Burden.
